Join Danone for an exclusive visit to Hectar, a pioneering pilot farm that is leading the way in innovative solutions for the future of dairy farming and regenerative agriculture.
This visit will offer a unique opportunity to explore how Hectar is addressing two major agricultural challenges: attracting the new generation of farmers and reducing the environmental impact of farming while adapting to climate change. Through Hectar’s visionary approach, we will see how they are creating a work-life balance for farmers, providing innovative tools to reduce the penalties of farm work, and implementing regenerative agricultural practices that contribute to both environmental sustainability and economic viability.
During the visit, participants will have the opportunity visit the Hectar Dairy Farm and witness how Hectar’s approach to dairy farming emphasises social sustainability, with innovative strategies for employee well-being, including a rotational shift model and a 35-hour working week, supported by Lean Management practices to reduce mental load. On the economic side, participants will learn how Hectar’s dairy farm overcame geographical challenges by processing milk into yoghurt, creating a market for 400,000 units annually through a partnership with Transgourmet. This diversification model not only adds economic value but also helps finance the farm’s sustainability efforts. Environmentally, the farm stands out for its commitment to raising cows outdoors on a 100% grass-fed diet, reducing the carbon footprint. Participants will hear about the challenges faced due to climatic variations and how the farm adapts to ensure sustainable operations.
Following the dairy farm visit, the focus will shift to Danone’s Les 2 Pieds Sur Terre programme, which has been supporting dairy farmers since 2018 to implement sustainable agronomic practices. This case study will highlight how Danone is working with partner farmers to enhance soil health through practices like cover cropping, no-till farming, and crop diversification, while improving carbon storage and reducing soil erosion. In the afternoon, participants will have the opportunity to visit a commercial dairy farm.
